Solar panel cleaning

Recover lost output across Thornbury, Bradley Stoke, Yate and the Bristol area.

Dirty panels lose 5–25% output. Bird droppings, lichen, traffic film and pollen build a thin layer that blocks light and cuts your generation. We use deionised water and soft-bristle heads — manufacturer-approved, no detergents, no warranty issues.

What about my warranty? Most major panel manufacturers — including JinkoSolar, LG, Panasonic, REC and SunPower — recommend pure-water cleaning with non-abrasive brushes. Detergents and high-pressure jets can void your warranty; we use neither.

Solar panels are a 25-year asset losing money every year they’re left dirty. A proper clean costs less than the energy they recover within 12 months on most arrays.

Cleaned from the ground

50ft carbon-fibre poles reach most domestic arrays without anyone going on the roof. Safer for us, safer for your tiles, no scaffold or MEWP costs.

Pure water, no detergents

Detergents leave residue that attracts dirt faster — the opposite of what you want. Pure water rinses clean and leaves nothing behind.

Soft-bristle brush heads

Designed for solar glass. No micro-scratches, no anti-reflective coating damage, no warranty risk.

Photos of every panel

Before-and-after shots of the array, sent the same day. You see exactly what came off.

5–25%
output gain.

Independent studies show dirty panels lose between 5% and 25% of rated output depending on environment. Bird droppings and lichen are the worst offenders.

25% potential loss when neglected

Dirt costs you money.

A solar array is a long-term investment. Skip the cleaning and you’re throwing away free electricity every month — usually more than the cost of an annual clean.

01

Bird droppings

The single biggest output killer. They stick, harden, and cast hard shadows that can shut down whole strings of cells. Hot-spot damage is permanent.

02

Lichen and moss

South-facing panels in damp climates grow lichen along the bottom edge. It blocks the lower row of cells, which drags the whole panel down.

03

Pollen and traffic film

Doesn’t look bad, but builds up steadily and cuts output by 5–10% over twelve months. Worst on flat-pitch installations.

Most arrays pay back the cost of an annual clean within three to six months of recovered generation. Skip a year and the loss is permanent — that’s revenue you’ve simply not earned.

Manufacturer- approved.

Cleaning solar panels the wrong way will void your warranty. We use the method most major manufacturers explicitly recommend.

No detergents — ever

Detergents leave a residue that attracts dirt faster and can streak the anti-reflective coating. We use deionised water and soft brushes only.

No high-pressure jets

High-pressure water can force its way past frame seals and damage the cells beneath. Pure-water reach-and-wash is gentle but thorough.

From the ground, no roof access

50ft carbon-fibre poles reach most domestic arrays without anyone going on the roof. Safer, quicker, cheaper.

Method statement on request

For commercial arrays or insured properties, if required, we’ll provide a written method statement and risk assessment before the visit.

Properly clean panels. Properly noticeable difference.

Solar cleaning questions.

The questions we get asked most about cleaning solar panels safely and effectively.

How often should solar panels be cleaned?

Once a year is enough for most arrays. Properties under trees, near busy roads, or with heavy bird traffic might benefit from twice yearly. We can advise after looking at your panels.

Not if it’s done correctly. Most major manufacturers approve pure-water cleaning with soft brushes and explicitly prohibit detergents and high-pressure jets. We use the approved method.

Typically 5% to 25%, depending on how dirty the panels are. Bird droppings and lichen cause the biggest losses; light pollen film causes the smallest. Most customers tracking their own inverter or app reading see a clear jump on the next sunny day after a clean.

For most domestic arrays, no. Our 50ft carbon-fibre poles reach the panels from the ground or driveway. For tall commercial buildings we’ll quote MEWP or scaffold access separately.

No. Solar-specific soft-bristle brush heads are designed for the glass and the anti-reflective coating. Aggressive brushes or scouring pads can damage the coating — we don’t use those.

Yes. Pure-water cleaning works in light rain because the rinse water is mineral-free and dries clear. Heavy rain we’ll postpone for safety.

A rinse with a hose just moves dirt around. A proper clean uses a soft-bristle brush to lift the contamination and pure water to rinse it away. We do the second.

No. Pure water at low pressure can’t penetrate panel seals or junction boxes. We avoid spraying directly into roof flashings and inverter housings as a matter of course.
